I have always known that avocados are good for you but I didn’t really know the benefits. Do you know what avocados are? Believe it or not, it’s a fruit, and contains about 20 essential nutrients, like fiber, vitamin E, folic acid, and B-vitamins. Like Omega 3, it has quite a bit of healthy monounsaturated fats, which lowers cholesterol levels, so they are very good for you.
Here are more benefits of avocados:
(1) Healthy eyes. Avocado has carotenoid lutein, which protects against macular degeneration and cataracts.
(2) Heart health. Avocado contains quite a bit of folate, and studies have shown that people that have diets high in folate tend to have lower incidents of heart disease than those who don’t.
(3) Helps regulate blood pressure. The fruit is high in potassium, which can help guard against heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke.
(4) Helps prevent certain cancers. There have been studies that show that avocado can help prevent oral, prostate, and breast cancer.
These benefits are enough to convince me to continue eating it every day. For the past week or so, I’ve been eating anywhere from a quarter to a half an avocado every day. I put them in my salads, on my sandwiches in place of mayo and I have been just eating it as a side dish. I am in the process of looking for a salad dressing recipe that is made with avocados. Yum!
